Pastor Craig Swing and Family
Melissa and I have 7 children and have lived in
Loveland for 8 years. We moved here from Fort Collins where we had
lived there for the previous 11 years. Craig was ordained as a pastor
in 1998, Melissa is a home mom, and the kids are the glue that holds
things together (or maybe I should say they are usually
"glued" together.)
Melissa and I are both from California. We
graduated from the same high school (she in '80 and I in '77) and went
on to college from there. Melissa first attended Westmont College for
2 years when I interrupted things and we were married in 1982. Melissa
went on to California State University in Northridge where she
received her bachelors and masters degrees in speech and language
communications. I received my bachelor's degree in electrical
engineering at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona and
then went on as a master's fellow to receive my masters of engineering
at UCLA. I landed my first job at Hughes Aircraft working on radar
systems and worked there for almost 6 years until 1987. We then packed
up our one child and moved to Fort Collins where I continued my career
in electronics at Comlinear Corporation for the next 11 years. You're
probably wondering how I went from being an engineer to a pastor.
Well, let's just say that it started with many years of being involved
in great churches, many years of studying God's word, many years of
character shaping trials, and a few years of fruitful labor for the
Lord. I guess it just reached a point where God was already using my
life in many of the aspects of being a pastor, and I reached a point
where I really wanted to serve him full time. So, somehow all that
worked together to bring me where I am today!
So, that pretty much explains all the vital
statistics, but let me explain a little bit about what charges my
batteries. My true heart is to help people grow in their relationship
with Christ, and to bring as many people into that relationship as
possible. I believe that the truths in the Bible are exciting and are
relevant to every day life: work, play, relationships, parenting,
marriage, finances, and yes even sex! Let's face it, those things are
what life is made of, and if our understanding of the Bible doesn't
impact those areas, it's not impacting our lives. If it doesn't impact
our lives, then it's boring and irrelevant, and it really only matters
on Sunday mornings. If you want an expositional dissertation from the
Greek on a given passage, that's great, I've got some good books you can
borrow. If you want to grow and change and be challenged from the Bible
in an encouraging way, then come check us out! I think you'll enjoy our
church.
I'm sure that's pretty much more than you ever
wanted to know about me, but I better add a little disclaimer, just in
case I'm not there when you come to visit! Hey, I appreciate you reading
through all this. If you ever have any questions or anything else you'd
like to talk about, drop me a line at craigswing@dayseven.com
or call me at the church office at
970-461-1818. Hope to see you this week!
