Pastor Chris Sheets and Family

My wife, Therese, and I live in Loveland, CO along with our five children. We moved to Colorado in 1992 and to Loveland in 1994. A few weeks after arriving in Colorado we found Summitview Community Church, Fort Collins - or should I say that it found us – and we have been a part of the Great Commission ever since. Never before had I experienced a group of people that sincerely tried to live out the truth of the Bible in their everyday lives. It caught my attention and intrigued me - and still does by the way.

Allow me to digress a moment! I grew up in rural Iowa on a farm and I guess I have never been able to get it completely out of my blood. Therese, on the other hand, grew up in Florida near the beach, where she spent much of her time participating in water sports. We met in Texas and have been married for 13 years. The path to becoming a pastor is likely not what you would expect, so let me explain. I graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Exercise Physiology and worked for several years as a rehab specialist with people that had injured backs. During this time, I helped develop a computer-based system to track the progress of our patients and became fascinated with computers and software. When we moved to Colorado, I decided to pursue employment in the software development industry and continued in that industry for 12 years, working first as a software programmer and eventually as a software architect.

As I got more involved at Summitview, I became a deacon and a fellowship team leader, and eventually I felt that God was asking me to be a pastor. It was something that scared me to death, but I eventually obeyed and was ordained as a pastor in May of 2005, and started full-time ministry in July. I have certainly experienced the power of Christ’s transformation in my own life and I want others to experience that same power in their lives – power that takes what can seem like a distant and disconnected God and bring Him into the reality of everyday life. The question that I continue to ask is, ‘How can I partner with God and live this life in a way that pleases Him and accomplishes something that will have lasting value?’ It’s an important question. In fact, I believe it is one of the most important questions that anyone can ask. It’s a question that has been asked by millions of people for thousands of years. I believe God has the answers to that question and so many others. My hope is that you will join us as we seek Him and His answers.
